Every year Messina Hof has a Themed New Year’s Eve Party. This year was Rock’in 50’s and was great fun. There were poodle skirts, leather, and I felt like I was in the movie Grease. As a matter of fact, we had a drive in movie screen setup in the parking lot! These are some photos from the party.
Every New Year’s at the Bonarrigo home requires black eyed peas. This year Paul said these were the best we ever had so here is the recipe!
Messina Hof New Year’s Black Eyed Peas – Serves 2
1 teaspoon olive oil
4 green onions, chopped coarsely
1 teaspoon minced garlic
4 oz prosciutto, chopped finely
1 large stalk of Swiss Chard, chop stem finely. Roll Swiss Chard leaf and chiffinade
Set aside 1 tablespoon of chiffinade for garnish
¼ cup Messina Hof dry white wine
15 oz black eyed peas (pre-cooked or canned)
½ cup freshly squeezed tomato juice
Saute’ onions and garlic until onions are translucent. Stir in prosciutto and Swiss Chard stem until coated with the oil. Then add wine. Cook until wine has been absorbed.
Add Swiss Chard leaf, black eyed peas, and tomato juice. Turn heat to low and allow to simmer for 1 hour.
Served with Messina Hof Private Reserve TexZin and Messina Hof Pinot Grigio.
