A Busy Harvest Week… Malbec from Lepard Vineyards

09.08.16

It’s been a busy harvest week at Messina Hof Estate! We received 7 different varietals including the first Malbec of the season! The Malbec comes from Lepard Vineyards located in the Texas High Plains. Messina Hof also receives other grapes from Lepard Vineyards like Chenin Blanc that becomes our single vineyard Lepard Chenin Blanc.

We interviewed Russell Lepard in September of 2015. Here are a few of our favorite questions…

What prompted you to start Lepard Vineyard? The prior owners of the land we purchased dreamed of starting a vineyard, and we fulfilled the dream by planting vines and starting Lepard Vineyard.

What makes your vineyard, and grapes, unique? Our vineyard is so unique because of its location and elevation. The vineyard sits at an elevation of 3,550 ft. above sea level which creates the micro climate needed to grow our grapes, and we also have a great water source.

What is the most rewarding part of being a vineyard owner? The most rewarding part about being a vineyard owner is being able to work with family, and being able to work within the wine Industry.

What is your favorite type of wine? My favorite wine is Messina Hof’s Glory!
