“A Tribute to the Winemaker” – About the Papa Paulo Port Label

07.18.18

Messina Hof is well known for its Port wines and it’s no wonder why they’re a popular pick. Not only are these delicious dessert wines crafted from the Lenoir grape grown at the Estate in Bryan, Texas, they’re the first ports in the world to be produced naturally without brandy fortification.

Among Messina Hof’s variety of ports is the Private Reserve Papa Paulo Port. Not only is this wine unique due to it’s history and quality, the label is also special. The artwork featured on the label is the first winner of Messina Hof’s Texas Wine Label Artist Competition in 1984. The piece titled “A Tribute to the Winemaker”, was painted by Maurice Schulz and represents heritage, tradition, and the family bond. These elements are an important part of Messina Hof’s history with generations of winemakers passing down the craft, as well as founders Paul Vincent and Merrill Bonarrigo passing down the winery to the next generation, Paul Mitchell and Karen.
