Back to the Basics: Choosing Glassware

05.19.17

Does the wine glass you choose make a difference? The answer is yes, it really does! The shape of the bowl (the part of the glass that is being poured in and sipped from) affects the intensity of aromas, while the rim affects how much wine hits your palate.

The larger the bowl, the more aromas that are exposed to the wine surface, making the ideal glass for red wines or heavier whites like our Private Reserve Chardonnay. (Our staff favorite for sipping red wine is our Shiraz Glass!)

A more narrow, tapered bowl collects less aromas with less of the wine surface being exposed to the air and is used for drinking lighter white wines and rosés.

When it comes to drinking sparkling wine, use a flute for optimal flavor and bubbles!
