Messina Hof Winery Wins Big During Awards Season

Messina Hof Wine Cellars, Inc, the most award-winning winery in Texas, is pleased to announce it was awarded honors at numerous wine competitions in
recent months, including the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, San Francisco International Wine Competition, Rodeo Uncorked! International Wine Competition, Lone Star International Wine Competition, San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, and TEXSOM
International Awards.

The 2022 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, held from January 10th-14th, evaluated 5,816 wines from nearly 1,000 wineries. Messina Hof took home a total of 23 awards, including 5 Gold medals for its 2019 Private Reserve Cabernet Franc, 2019 Private Reserve Gewürztraminer, 2019 Artist Series Sangiovese, 2019 Private Reserve Tempranillo, and Emblaze Sweet Red. Messina Hof’s Emblaze Sweet Red includes augmented reality label technology, making Messina Hof the first Texas winery to feature interactive labels.

The 2021 San Francisco International Wine Competition, one of the oldest international wine competitions in the world, was held from November 15th-19th and received 2,627 entries from 21 countries. Messina Hof’s 2018 Paulo Sagrantino received a prestigious Double Gold, a medal awarded to wines that received a Gold medal rating by all judges on the panel. Messina Hof also won a Silver medal for their 2019 Artist Series Sangiovese.

Messina Hof took home a total of 23 awards at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo’s 2022 Rodeo Uncorked! International Wine Competition held from November 12th-14th, receiving Double Gold for its 2020 Private Reserve Viognier and 2019 Black Label Premium Red. The winery also received Class Champion and Gold awards for their 2019 Artist Series Sangiovese and 2018 Sagrantino Reserva. The 2019 GSM and 2017 Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon were both Gold medal winners. In total, Messina Hof garnered three Class Champion and 10 Texas Class Champion distinctions.

At the 38th Annual Lone Star International Wine Competition held on October 6th-7th, Messina Hof added 18 awards to its repertoire, most notably receiving a Grand Star for their 2019 Private Reserve Gewürztraminer. In addition, the winery’s 2019 Private Reserve Cabernet Franc and 2017 Hill Country Port won Gold in the competition.

At the 13th Annual San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo International Wine Competition held from October 4th-6th, Messina Hof was awarded 18 medals, with the 2018 Artist Series Primitivo receiving Gold and Top of Class honors. The 2019 Private Reserve Cabernet Franc and 2019 Private Reserve Gewürztraminer were recognized with Texas Class Champion and Gold awards, while the 2019 Sauvignon Blanc received Silver and Texas Class Champion honors.

In May, Messina Hof’s 2018 Paulo Merlot received a Gold ranking at the 2021 TEXSOM International Wine Awards, an organization committed to promoting professional wine service standards, outlining paths for further beverage education and certification, and raising public awareness about professional standards and certifications for sommeliers. In addition, the 2020 Private Reserve Blanc Du Bois received a Silver ranking.

Messina Hof also recently celebrated the debut of its winter release wines. These include a 2021 Grenache Dry Rosé, 2020 Pinot Grigio, 2019 Private Reserve Pinot Noir, 2019 Paulo Cabernet Sauvignon, 2019 Sagrantino Reserva, 2019 Dry Riesling and 2018 Hill Country Papa Paulo Port.
