National Armed Forces Day

05.17.13

This Saturday, May 18th, is National Armed Forces Day. President Harry S. Truman heavily endorsed a holiday for all Americans to join together and express their appreciation for the members of the United States military. The announcement of the holiday was made on August 31, 1949 by Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson. Armed Forces Day was created in order to replace separate Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air ForceMilitary Wine Days. The single-day holiday sprouted from the joining of all of the Armed Forces under the Department of Defense.

Celebrate the patriotic efforts of America’s service men and women with Messina Hof. Messina Hof has a special National Museum of the Pacific War wine collection which include a Cabernet Sauvignon, 2012 Chardonnay, and Admiral’s Reserve, a dessert red wine. All purchases support the Admiral Nimitz Foundation. The Foundation has supported the National Museum of the Pacific War since 1971. Another way to support America’s Armed Forces is by purchasing our new Fisher House Cabernet Sauvignon. A portion of the proceeds benefit the Fisher House Foundation, a foundation that has helped more than 160,000 military and veteran families.

Happy Armed Forces Day and don’t forget to thank military members and veterans for their selfless service!
