Picking Wines for your Patio Party

Summer is a nice time to host night-time patio parties. People often wonder how much wine they need to purchase for their get-togethers and parties. The number of wines and amount served per wine will depend upon the type of party.  If you are hosting a cocktail party, the normal amount of wine needed will be 1 case of wine per 50 people per hour, with one type of wine.

Messina Hof recommends serving a white and red wine: one case of white wine and one case of red wine per 100 people.  This, of course, varies with the type of audience.   If all guests are wine drinkers, you will want to order more wine.  If more of your guests are non-drinkers, then you would need to order less.  The rule of thumb is 4-5 glasses of wine per bottle. 

If you are hosting a seated dinner, you may choose to serve a different style wine with each course or serve one wine throughout the entire meal. If you choose to serve one wine throughout the dinner, a few Messina Hof wines some delicious summer-time wines we suggest are: Riesling, Pinot Grigio, Unoaked Chardonnay, Beau, and Merlot.
