Spring Bloomings at the Vineyard

04.25.11

Bluebonnets and purple wisteria are blooming. Yellow daffodils line the banks of the lake and the pink climbing roses on the gazebo are in full bloom….just beautiful! The grapevines have pushed to 4-6 inches and tiny grape clusters have begun to form. Picnickers love the beautiful weather sitting lakeside and enjoying the vineyard view. Though most vines look healthy and bursting with life, a few suffered from the deep freeze and are being replanted. By mid-April all planting is completed.

The production team is busy bottling Gewurztraminer, Chenin Blanc, and Chardonnay. These are perfect wines for the spring and summer. Gewürztraminer is my particular favorite for spicy Tex-Mex and BBQ dishes. Soon we will have another addition to our winemaking team to join Paul V, Paul M, David, Mike, Jeremy, and Marcello in the cellar. Stay tuned for more information. The Messina Hof family is blessed to have such a good team.

Plans for the Hill Country Winery are complete and construction beginning. We will not be far from Wildseed Farms which is so pretty in the spring with wildflowers everywhere. Be sure to let us know what types of events and services you would like to see at our Hill Country property.

Cheers,
Paul & Merrill
