What Wines Pair Best with Poultry?

07.29.11

Choosing what wine to serve with a poultry dish depends on how the poultry is cooked and what sauces or seasoning it might have. If it is a chicken or turkey dish that is roasted, or served with a crème sauce, then a bold wine will work best in order to stand out against the heavy flavors. Chardonnay would be good choices.

If the chicken is fried, then Sauvignon Blanc will complement the dish nicely. If your dish includes duck or other game birds, then Pinot Noir wine will pair well. Poultry dishes with heavier flavors or fat content require a bolder wine to stand out.
