Wine & Chocolate Pairings!

02.13.12

It’s that time of year again where we engage in a romantic evening with our loved ones. What could be better to go along with your sweetheart’s favorite chocolate than your favorite Messina Hof wine? When pairing wine with chocolate, grabbing a bottle of a light flavored wine with a light chocolate will result in the best pairs! Try beginning the night with a white chocolate and working slowly into a dark chocolate. Here are some tips for pairing the right wine with different types of chocolates.

White Chocolate Wine Suggestions

For buttery white chocolates, try Moscato or White Zinfandel to bring out any fruit flavors present.

Milk Chocolate Wine Suggestions

Try Pinot Noir or Merlot for a bar of milk chocolate or a chocolate mousse or cheesecake. For mild milk chocolates, try a dessert wine like Riesling or Muscat Canelli. For chocolate covered strawberries, a sparkling wine or Champagne is a great match.

Dark Chocolate Wine Suggestions

To perfect a dark or bittersweet chocolate flavor use Cabernet Sauvignon or Sophia Marie Rose’. For dark chocolate with a 55% cocoa mark, try Pinot Noir or Merlot.
