Warmer Days Brought Bud Break at Messina Hof!

The pruning process started late December when the vines were dormant (or taking their winter nap) and now they’re waking up to begin their annual growth cycle. As temperatures warm up, energy from carbohydrates stored during dormancy cause buds to swell and eventually burst or break.

The majority of the grapes grown at Messina Hof’s Estate Vineyard are Lenoir, but there’s also a small portion dedicated to Blanc du Bois (pictured below) and Sagrantino.
